Women Can Have Normal Childbirth

Disabled pregnant women with epilepsy at risk of obstetric complications was higher than healthy women. However, pregnant women persons with epilepsy can have a healthy baby and give birth to normal children along bangkitannya controlled.

It was announced by Chairman of Study Group Epilepsy Association of Physician Specialists Indonesia Kurnia Kusumastuti Nerves in the seminar "Epilepsy in Children, comorbidities, and the Epilepsy Foundation Disabled Women in Dealing with Hormonal Changes" on Thursday (14/6), in Jakarta.

He said the rise of the risk of people with epilepsy in pregnant women increased 23-30 percent due to hormonal changes during pregnancy.

To beware, the last great generation can cause uterine contractions so the baby could be born prematurely. When there is rise of the blood vessels constrict so that the intake of oxygen to the fetus is reduced drastically. As a result, the fetus may experience asphyxia.

However, persons with epilepsy pregnant women, said Kurnia, do not worry too much. Data showed that more than 93 percent of women with epilepsy give birth to normal, not surgery. Condition, the generation is controlled by taking antiepileptic drugs (OAE) during pregnancy until after delivery.

When controlling the generation, physicians must pay attention to the condition of the fetus. Resurrection is not controlled can be fatal, whereas the consumption of excessive OAE adversely affect the fetus. Therefore, pregnant women with epilepsy are advised to do deliveries in hospitals / clinics that have epilepsy care facilities and intensive care baby unit.

Another speaker, Chief of the Division of Child Neurology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia Dwi Putro Widodo added, increasing the frequency of arousal in pregnant women with epilepsy is sometimes due to deliberate discontinuation of the OAE. Many pregnant women with epilepsy worry OAE side effects to the fetus.
